Book Group

Time: Week 2, Thursday, 2.00 - 4.00pm

Place: St Edmund’s Hall, Glastonbury

Leader: Julie Hillman, Tel: 01458 446643; Email:

Typically a book is read over a fortnight to be discussed at the following session. The books we read are chosen by the group and each session is led/chaired by a different group member although this is not forced upon anyone not wishing to do so.

Group members are required to obtain their own copy of the texts.

Our reading list for the 2018 autumn term is:
Sebastian Barry – A Long Long Way
Elizabeth Bowen – The Heat of the Day
Jim Crace – Being Dead
Hilary Mantel – Fludd
Ian McEwen – The Children Act
plus to kick off, at the first session of the new term on 27th September:
Alan Hollinghurst - The Sparsholt Affair

Inevitably we do not ALL enjoy ALL of the books but one thing is guaranteed – a lively, interesting and enjoyable meeting!

The group is about as big as it can be for enjoyable discussion with everyone having a chance to have their say, but Julie is keeping a waiting list, in case spaces become available or indeed, should there be sufficient interest, to help another group get off the ground.
